Chapter ; The Liberal Lawyer My name is Sherrie Nathan. I am a lawyer; a criminal lawyer; a defence lawyer and, yes, I have heard all the jokes about the similarity of the sound of my name with another far better known but, in his case, entirely fictional American defence lawyer. The three girls and their teacher strode heads high back into the hall to find the men had returned from their shopping trip and were sitting on the floor drinking cans of beer and chomping their way through mounds of sandwiches. The Boss signalled the girls to sit off to one side, but his men moaned and eventually he consented to let them join the circle and have something to eat. Darrel sat quietly only half listening as Bob drabbled on about nothing. Bob was a bank officer on the same level as Darrel but at a different location. Jessy looked down at the sleeping infant in his arms, and then back to his mother. "I do think, he is finally asleep." He rose slowly, trying not to disturb the sleeping infant. "Shall we go and tuck him in bed. Just as soon as we get to the new house, I am sure that one of the many rooms can be decorated in all the things he will need as he grows up. But for now, he will have to make due with one of the drawers in your room. As so many of the woman that I knew from my past, did." Jessy watched on as she settled her baby, his son.

"You cheated on my algebra test, Tiffany Daniels?" repeated Mr. Brown. "Yes," she said in a tiny voice. "I cheated on the test." Brown opened a desk drawer and pulled out a small tape recorded. He clicked rewind for a second, and Tiffanys voice filled the room, admitting her transgression. Tiffany suddenly felt sick. "Why did you tape that?" she asked. "Evidence," Brown said simply. Tiffany didnt like the sound of this at all. And she liked the rest of the conversation even less. "Im going to give you a choice, Tiffany," her math teacher said.

On Monday morning she retreated into the welter of complex new tax laws in a desperate attempt to put any memory of the whole business behind her.
